Senate Bill Seeks to Streamline Federal Spectrum Relocation ProcessPosted on March 11, 2011
As part of the Federal government’s effort to free up spectrum for broadband deployment, Senators Mark R. Warner (D-VA) and Roger Wicker (R-MS) have introduced the Spectrum Relocation Improvement Act of 2011 (S.522) to clarify the rights and responsibilities of Federal entities in the spectrum relocation process. Pursuant to the bill, the National Telecommunications and Information Administration (NTIA) would be required to publicize the non-classified details of Federal entity spectrum relocation plans, including the current use of the spectrum, facility locations, timelines, fund usages, and risk factors. The bill would also create a Technical Review Panel to assist Federal agencies with the relocation process. S.522 has been referred to the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science, and Transportation.
